Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, opened a technology academy backed by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) in Hadejia, Jigawa State, northern Nigeria, on June 29, 2026.

The President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Academy was commissioned alongside a clinic and dialysis centre during her visit to the state.

Okay News reports that NITDA described the academy as a centre for digital training, research and the development of health-technology prototypes.

The agency’s account said the facility included a fabrication laboratory, maker space, innovation laboratory and space for presenting startup ideas. It also listed an auditorium and residential accommodation for trainees.

The Nation’s June 29 report said NITDA Director-General Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi outlined plans for work on wearable diagnostic devices and prosthetics using three-dimensional scanning and printing.

Those were research objectives for the academy, rather than evidence that any device had been clinically validated or approved for use.

Tinubu said the academy represented investment in young people’s education and skills, according to NITDA’s account of the commissioning.

The neighbouring Senator Oluremi Tinubu Clinic was built and equipped through FutureMap Foundation and eHealth Africa, NITDA said. The agency described the two facilities as intended to support cooperation between technology training and healthcare research.
