Lafia, Nigeria – A former governorship candidate in Nasarawa State, David Ombugadu, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) just weeks after joining the ruling party, in a swift political turnaround ahead of the 2027 elections.
Umbugadu confirmed his exit in a resignation letter dated March 24, 2026, addressed to his ward chairman in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area. He cited concerns over alleged political moves aimed at frustrating his 2027 governorship ambition as the main reason for leaving the APC. He also stated his decision to return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which he described as his longstanding political base.
The development comes barely three weeks after he was officially received into the APC at the Government House in Lafia on March 2, 2026. The reception was attended by key party figures, including Governor Abdullahi Sule, former governor Abdullahi Adamu, and former governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura.
Okay News understands that Ombugadu’s return to the PDP marks another shift in his political journey, having first joined the party in 2014 after leaving the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC). He remained with the PDP for years before his brief defection to the APC earlier this month.
His latest move is expected to influence political alignments in Nasarawa State, particularly as early positioning and realignments continue ahead of the 2027 general elections.
