AKURE, Nigeria — Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has approved the appointment of Professor Tomola Marshal Obamuyi as the new Vice-Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA).
The executive approval was announced on Friday, June 26, 2026, in a public statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan.
Okay News reports that the selection followed an official recommendation by the university’s Governing Council, overseen by its chairman, Dr. Tunji Abayomi. Obamuyi emerged as the top candidate out of 15 shortlisted academics evaluated by the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board in compliance with the university’s statutory regulations.
A distinguished scholar in banking and finance, Professor Tomola Marshal Obamuyi will take over from the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olugbenga Ige. Prior to his new appointment, Obamuyi served in several high-profile administrative capacities, including Head of the Department of Banking and Finance at AAUA and pioneer substantive Dean of the School of Management Technology at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).
Obamuyi brings international administrative expertise to the institution, having previously served as a subject matter expert for the National Council for Higher Education in Namibia and as a member of the National Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation panels. Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed confidence that the newly appointed administrator would deploy his extensive academic and research background to maintain stable growth and foster innovation across the state-owned institution.
