The Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has publicly accused Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of deliberately neglecting and abandoning all ongoing projects initiated by his late predecessor, Rotimi Akeredolu. The PDP’s Director of Media and Publicity, Mr. Leye Igbabo, issued a statement on Sunday expressing deep concern over the governor’s unwillingness and inability to complete these projects.

The opposition party alleged that Governor Aiyedatiwa’s actions reflect a political vendetta aimed at erasing Akeredolu’s legacy. According to the PDP, Aiyedatiwa had even boasted about his power to halt any projects that did not align with his preferences, suggesting that beneficiaries of the projects should seek alternative financing to complete them. The statement emphasized, “The available facts showed that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa was not ready to go on with the projects because of his clear intention to destroy his predecessor’s legacy on the altar of political vendetta”.

In response, the All Progressives Congress (APC) state media director, Mr. Steve Otaloro, dismissed the PDP’s claims as baseless and attention-seeking. He highlighted that Governor Aiyedatiwa, who served as deputy governor under Akeredolu, views the previous administration as an extension of his own and has been actively working to complete inherited projects. Otaloro cited recent commissions of road projects, including the Oda Road in Akure, as evidence of the administration’s commitment to continuity and progress.

The APC further accused the PDP of resorting to disinformation following their failed attempts to overturn the November 2024 governorship election results. The party urged the opposition to focus on internal challenges rather than spreading falsehoods that mislead the public.

This political clash underscores ongoing tensions in Ondo State as Governor Aiyedatiwa seeks to balance legacy completion with his administration’s agenda, while the PDP intensifies scrutiny over perceived neglect of critical infrastructure projects.
