Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria – The Ondo State Police Command has dismissed reports claiming that suspected bandits were arrested at Akure Airport in Akure, Ondo State, describing the claims as false and misleading.

Okay News reports that the police, in a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, clarified that no security breach occurred at the airport and no bandits were arrested at the facility as widely circulated on some media platforms.

According to the Command, security operatives instead acted on intelligence from a concerned resident about suspected kidnappers operating around the Eleyewo area of Akure. A targeted operation was subsequently carried out in the area, leading to the arrest of two suspects believed to be logistics suppliers assisting kidnapping operations.

Police said preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects played roles in supporting kidnapping activities within the state and have already made confessional statements that are helping investigators track down other members of the criminal network.

The Command urged members of the public to disregard reports suggesting that bandits were arrested at the airport, warning that such claims could cause unnecessary panic. It also reassured residents that security around key infrastructure, including the airport, remains intact.

The clarification comes amid earlier claims attributed to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria indicating that security operatives had apprehended suspected bandits around the airport vicinity.
