The Ondo State Government has confirmed two cases of cholera in the state, raising immediate concerns and prompting swift action.
Commissioner for Health, Banji Ajaka, announced on Monday that the state has activated enhanced surveillance measures to tackle any potential outbreak.
The two confirmed cases were reported in Okitipupa Local Government Area, where the situation has already been addressed by the rapid response team.
“The surveillance team was also strengthened with community informants and contact tracers trained and placed on stipends for eight months,” Ajaka stated.
“They have been deployed for active case searches in preparation for any reported cholera outbreak.”
Ajaka further revealed that an emergency preparedness committee would be established to focus on the provision of potable water, improved sanitation, and the strengthening of health institutions across the state.
To bolster these efforts, the government plans to intensify its public awareness campaign.
This initiative will involve sensitizing the population through mass media and engaging local communities to ensure they are informed and prepared.
