In a move that has sparked outrage and accusations of betrayal, the Ondo State government, led by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has initiated plans to demolish 156 homes within the Alagbaka civil service quarters in Akure, okay.ng reports.

These homes, originally built during the administration of the late Governor Adekunle Ajasin to provide affordable housing for state workers, have been occupied by civil servants and their families for many years, some for over a decade. Residents who have received eviction notices are expressing shock and frustration, arguing that the government’s action undermines the welfare-focused legacy of Governor Ajasin.

Concerns are also mounting among the affected occupants that the demolition is a precursor to land grabbing, with allegations suggesting that powerful officials are eyeing the prime Alagbaka location for lucrative redevelopment.

Despite years of consistent rent payments, the government has reportedly offered no alternative housing or compensation to the residents, further fueling their anger and leading to vows of resistance and potential organization by civil service unions.
