One person has been confirmed dead and 19 others rescued after a boat capsized around Ebute-Ojo terminal in Lagos on Monday.

Okay.ng gathered that the incident occurred around 7:30 pm when a fully loaded 20-capacity passengers boat going from Liverpool jetty to Ebute-Ojo terminal fliped due to heavy water waves.

The whole 20 passengers were rescued by local community members and then rushed to the hospital where one person was pronounced dead while the others were reunited with their families.

General Manager of Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, confirming the incident on Monday said the Marine Police have since arrested the captain of the boat and ongoing investigations are being carried out by LASWA and other relevant emergency agencies.
