As his non-declaration of asset trial resumes today, suspended chief justice of Nigeria (CJN), Walter Onnoghen, has opened his defence at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

Okay Nigeria reported earlier that the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) dismissed Onnoghen’s ‘no-case’ submission and order him to enter his defence to clear his name.

However, Onnoghen has opened his defence as the trial resumed on Monday.

Adegboyega Awomolo, Justice Onnoghen’s counsel, raised concerns that the proceedings from Friday’s hearing have not been made available to them.

He then requested that a witness, Miss Theresa Nwafor who work for the CCT should be subpoena to appear as a witness for the CJN.

The witness is the Director of the CCB in Benin.

Onnoghen’s counsel also informed the chairman that he ought to rule on his application before any other thing, a position the prosecution counsel did not object to.

Danladi Umar, CCT chairman, in his ruling granted the request and ordered her to be at the tribunal on Wednesday by 10 am.

Furthermore, a second witness Lawal Busari had taken the witness stand on behalf of Justice Onnoghen.

Okay Nigeria recalls that Onnoghen had appeal the dismissal of his ‘no-case’ submission.
