The cultural city of Ile Ife in Osun State witnessed a major traditional celebration on Sunday as the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, received the title of Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua from the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja The Second.
Okay News reports that Senator Tinubu arrived at the palace around 1 PM to a vibrant reception marked by heightened security, musical displays, and a procession of chiefs who ushered her into the main courtyard of the palace.
The installation took place at the Palace Square, where the event was intentionally aligned with ceremonies commemorating the tenth coronation anniversary of the Ooni of Ife. Traditional rulers and prominent personalities from across Yoruba territories attended the ceremony, creating an atmosphere that reflected unity and heritage. Among the dignitaries present were the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse The Third, the Sultan of Sokoto, and the Soun of Ogbomoso, alongside several cultural leaders.
The title Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua is historically symbolic, having last been held by the late Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo, wife of the revered Nigerian nationalist and statesman, Chief Obafemi Awolowo. The title represents exceptional leadership and significant societal contributions within the Yoruba cultural structure.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu’s recognition comes as part of a long list of honours she has received across different regions in Nigeria throughout the year. In August 2025, she was conferred with the title Iya Oba of Ikorodu by the traditional ruler, Oba Kabir Shotobi, in Lagos State. Months earlier, in June, she received the title Ugosimba The First of Enugu from the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council in appreciation of her humanitarian outreach and national development initiatives.
Her impact was again acknowledged in October when the Lamido of Akko in Gombe State awarded her the title Sarauniyar Yaki, meaning Queen Warrior, due to her continuous efforts in advancing the welfare of vulnerable individuals and communities across the country.
