Osimhen Advised to Balance Career Ambitions Amid Transfer Uncertainty, Says Christian Obodo

Former Super Eagles midfielder Christian Obodo has urged Victor Osimhen to carefully consider his next career move, emphasizing the need for compromise amid ongoing transfer speculation. In an interview, Obodo highlighted that Osimhen’s high release clause and salary demands have deterred top European clubs from pursuing the Napoli striker.

“I know Osimhen would still like to play European football and achieve a lot but the clause Napoli put on him and his wages is scaring clubs away. The clubs do not want to make a decision that will bounce back and make them regret,” Obodo said.

Obodo also lamented the perception of Nigerian players compared to their South American counterparts, stating, “Nigeria does not package their players well. If Osimhen was Brazilian, they (European top clubs) would have signed since. The way some Nigerians talk about their countrymen is not fair.”

The former Udinese star advised Osimhen to weigh his options prudently, saying, “For me, it is left for Osimhen to compromise if he wants to stay in Europe or go to Al Hilal for the wages. Whatever decision he makes, we should just pray he does not make the wrong decision.”

Osimhen, 26, recently completed a loan spell at Galatasaray, scoring 37 goals in 41 appearances. The Turkish club is reportedly interested in signing him permanently. Meanwhile, the striker has attracted interest from Juventus, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport. He notably rejected a move to Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal, where contract talks reportedly stalled over wage demands.
