IREE, Nigeria — Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Iree, Boripe Local Government Area of Osun State, Nigeria, distanced the community on July 8, 2026, from the recent endorsement of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke for a second term by the traditional ruler, the Aree of Iree, Oba Muritala Oyelakin.
Okay News reports that APC leaders, including the Chairman of Boripe North Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hammed Omoniyi; the Oluomo of Ireeland, Yinka Adeojo; former Osun State Commissioner for Local Government, Adebayo Adeleke; and former Boripe APC Chairman, Debo Ajeigbe, signed a joint statement declaring the monarch’s endorsement a personal decision that does not represent the position of the general public.
The statement noted that the endorsement lacked broad consultation with local stakeholders. The party leaders said that community organizations, including the Iree Progressive Association (IPA), were not involved in the decision.
The leaders said the APC maintains a strong presence in the area due to various infrastructure and social development projects completed under previous party administrations. They listed past projects as roads, educational facilities, healthcare projects, solar streetlights, electricity transformers, and empowerment programs.
The statement added that the current state administration has failed to execute development projects in the community, urging residents to judge political leaders strictly by their public service delivery. The leaders also noted that an ongoing legal dispute regarding the traditional stool of the Aree of Iree remains before the court.
