Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, has denied allegations that the governor has borrowed funds or accessed security votes since taking office. Rasheed stated that Adeleke is governing the state within the confines of available resources from federal allocations and internally generated revenue.

The spokesperson clarified that Osun’s external debt actually decreased from $91.8 million in 2022 to $87.2 million in 2023, according to the Debt Management Office. He attributed the increase in naira value to the devaluation of the currency.

Rasheed also explained that the security services funds in the budget performance report were used for various security operations and interventions, and not for personal security votes. He emphasized that Governor Adeleke has not drawn any personal security votes, in line with his commitment to free up state resources for his five-point agenda.

The denial comes in response to allegations by opposition politicians that Adeleke has increased Osun’s debt and accessed billions of naira in security votes.
