Toyin Abraham’s new comedy film Oversabi Aunty has made a strong entry at the Nigerian box office, pulling in a total of ₦100.5 million during its opening period. The figure includes ₦87.8 million from its first weekend in cinemas and an additional ₦12.7 million earned from preview screenings, making it the second-highest opening for a Nollywood film in 2025 so far.
Industry data shows the movie ranked among the top performers of the weekend, reflecting continued audience interest in locally produced commercial comedies led by established stars. Distributors attributed the impressive debut to high cinema turnout in Nigeria and Ghana, effective marketing campaigns, and positive early audience reactions ahead of its wide release.
Oversabi Aunty stars Abraham as Toun, an overzealous church usher whose constant attempts to “fix” the lives of others spiral into chaos.
The film features a strong supporting cast, including Mike Ezuruonye, Queen Nwokoye, Jemima Osunde and Enioluwa Adeoluwa. Analysts say the opening further confirms Abraham’s status as one of Nollywood’s most bankable actors, at a time when strong early box office performance has become crucial for filmmakers facing rising production costs.
