The Oyo State Government has announced Thursday 23rd and Friday 24th February 2017 as the mid-term break for the second term of the 2016/17 academic calendar for the pupils and students of public and private secondary schools in the state.

The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Adeniyi Olowofela, stated in Ibadan on Tuesday.

Olowofela enjoined parents to be alive to their responsibilities by monitoring their children and ensuring that they restrain themselves from negative vices such as roaming the streets during school hours, hooliganism, and cultism amongst others.

According to the commissioner, “the process of revamping the education sector in the state is a continuous one and the abiding concern of the government is to stem the trend of mass failure of public school students in external examination. The state government will not rescind its stand on its no automatic promotion policy.”

The commissioner advised parents to spend time with their children and provide them with basic needs, urging that they should train them with proper moral values and not take their discipline for granted.

He also enjoined pupils to be hard-working and show commitment to their education.
