Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has attributed Nigeria’s financial struggles to its reliance on fuel imports and mismanagement of its oil resources.

Speaking during the Special Holy Ghost Congress in Abuja, Adeboye warned that without divine intervention, the naira could have depreciated to as low as ₦10,000 to $1.

Adeboye criticised Nigeria’s ongoing dependence on imported petrol despite being a significant oil-producing nation.

He noted the billions spent on non-functional refineries as a major factor contributing to the country’s economic challenges.

Reflecting on the removal of fuel subsidies, Adeboye said the decision angered those who had profited under the previous subsidy regime, further worsening the economic situation.

“When the President cancelled the subsidy on petrol imports, those who benefited from it became upset and created more problems,” he stated.

The RCCG leader emphasised that the country’s economic difficulties predate the current administration, highlighting systemic issues tied to petrol importation.

“Despite having oil, we continued to import petrol and waste billions on refineries that did not operate effectively,” he said.

Adeboye also revealed that he had turned to prayer as the naira experienced rapid devaluation, expressing gratitude to others who joined him in seeking divine intervention.

“If God hadn’t intervened, $1 could have been worth ₦10,000 by now. This illustrates how much we need prayers,” he remarked.

He concluded by urging Nigerians to seek divine help, stating, “We need help, and it’s not human help; it’s divine help.”
