PDP BoT Rejects Appeal Court Ruling, Moves To Reconcile Party Leaders

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

Abuja, Nigeria – The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party has rejected the recent judgment of the Court of Appeal which invalidated the party’s November 15–16, 2025 national convention that produced the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee.

In a communiqué on Wednesday obtained by Okay News, the BoT Chairman, Adolphus Wabara, the board said it disagrees with the ruling and is awaiting legal advice on the next course of action.

The expanded emergency meeting of the board, held between March 10 and 11, expressed concern over the internal leadership disputes and litigations within the party, noting that the crisis has negatively affected unity and smooth operations of the PDP as Nigeria’s main opposition party.

However, the BoT said it would explore the opportunity for reconciliation provided in the judgment delivered by the Ibadan Division of the Court of Appeal.

To address the crisis, the board announced the formation of a special committee to engage legal teams and other stakeholders in order to foster reconciliation and restore stability within the party ahead of the 2027 Nigerian general elections.

The BoT also urged party leaders and members to set aside personal interests and work together to strengthen the party.

The board commended the efforts of Bala Mohammed and Seyi Makinde for their commitment to the party’s stability.

In addition, the BoT approved the appointment of Muazu Babangida Aliyu as the Secretary of the board in line with Section 32 of the PDP constitution.

The trustees also called on Nigerians to remain hopeful, assuring that the party is working to reposition itself ahead of the 2027 elections and challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress.
