The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has accused the leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, of playing on the nation’s forgetfulness and insulting its intelligence.

In a press release signed by the Council’s Director of Media & Publicity, Bayo Onanuga, the APC claims that the PDP has consistently shown a lack of capacity for introspection and has been spreading lies about the current APC-led government of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Onanuga accuses Abubakar of blaming the APC for the emergence of Boko Haram, even though the insurgent group emerged under the PDP’s watch in 2009.

He also accuses the former vice president of blaming Buhari for the economic challenges faced by the country, while forgetting that he had opportunistically joined the coalition that toppled the PDP government of President Jonathan when the economy was in decline.

The statement also takes aim at former Senate President Abubakar Saraki, who it describes as the “failed Senate President and saboteur-in-chief of the Buhari agenda.” Saraki recently urged Nigerians to “go back to the PDP at both the State and the national levels,” according to Onanuga.

The APC accuses the PDP of looting the national treasury during its 16 years in power, depleting foreign reserves to $28 billion by May 2015, and leaving the country’s infrastructure in a decrepit state.

It also claims that the PDP was responsible for the emergence of Boko Haram and was unable to deal with the threat during its time in power.

Onanuga points to the Buhari government’s efforts to clear the mess left by the PDP, including the completion of the Second Niger Bridge and the construction of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

He promises that the APC’s presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will build on Buhari’s legacy and implement policies that will transform the country.
