Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has blamed the lingering fuel scarcity in Nigeria on the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos told newsmen yesterday in Lagos that the former ruling party destroyed the country for 16 years but the current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari had come to “clear the mess”.

“For 16 good years, PDP destroyed the country. We should not be lamenting over petroleum queues today if they had seen what was necessary and done what was necessary for this country. We can’t be emotional and in self denial. If they had done Awolowo Road, if they had done Lagos/Ibadan Expressway, if they put priority on our rail lines, if they put priority on electricity generation and distribution we would not be in this mess that we are today,” Tinubu said.

When told that Nigerians are becoming impatient with the Buhari administration over the fuel scarcity, Tinubu said he needed empirical facts to validate the claim.

“Nigerians are impatient for what? I research on Nigerians, they just want to see the direction of the economic policy and want to be certain of the future that we will not continue in the direction of leaderless, directionless and hopelessness of the past 16 years.

“The fact is that Nigerians did not want to continue to import toothpicks, we can make toothpicks out of our bamboo trees. Nigeria does not want to import rice or plastic or call them chicken, Nigeria does not want to continue in the direction of the past 16 years.

“What did they leave behind in our account? Where should certain things that we bring to this country become our priority? Why do we have to bring those things that we can produce, the country needs surgical operation and it is in the hands of a very honest Nigeria,” Tinubu said.
