ABUJA, Nigeria – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has launched a scathing attack on President Bola Tinubu’s visit to Plateau State, describing it as a “performative and superficial” display that lacked genuine empathy for the victims of the March 29 massacre.
Okay News reports that in a press statement issued on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the opposition party accused the President of visiting the state “grudgingly” only after overwhelming public condemnation. The PDP particularly criticized the President’s decision to hold meetings at the Jos airport lounge rather than visiting the affected communities. “The President’s insensitivity and inhumanity were on full display,” the statement read, noting that Tinubu’s declared “impatience” with the audience—citing a lack of airport lighting and a 10-minute departure window—offered no succour to the grieving families.
The PDP further alleged that the President’s inability to leave the airport was a “damning indication” of the untamed insecurity currently overwhelming the nation’s security agencies. “That the President himself fears venturing into Plateau State is a clear link to the hopelessness into which the Tinubu APC-led administration has plunged this country,” Ememobong stated.
Responding to the President’s announcement of 5,000 AI-enabled CCTV cameras to combat crime in the state, the PDP dismissed the plan as a “simplistic” and “laughable” panacea for the murderous insecurity ravaging the region. The party argued that cameras alone cannot address the core security challenges facing the country.
Concluding the statement, the PDP called on the Federal Government to abandon what it termed a “disgraceful display” and immediately adopt a “whole-of-society approach” with a deliberate emphasis on community engagement to address the insecurity tearing the nation apart.
