Following the crisis rocking the Ebonyi State chapter of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), over 450, 000 members of the party have threatened to defect.

The crisis emanated from the party’s choice of governorship candidates for next year’s gubernatorial poll.

Daily Sun gathered that the defection plans are already at its peak stage for the aggrieved members, which cut across the state, especially the North and Central Senatorial districts.

It is being speculated that the aggrieved members might be defecting to All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) following its popularity in the South East of Nigeria. But a source has confirmed that the intending defectors have not disclosed the party they would prefer.

The source further revealed that following the powerful party leaders behind the defection plot, the numbers of members drawn from the councils are expected not to be less than 500,000, adding that if the plan goes through, the ruling party would have been notified of a possible loss of the state.

The planned mass defection is in protest against the perceived hide-and-seek tactic adopted by the national leadership of PDP in handling the problem.

It was reported that a delegation meeting to Abuja last Wednesday, November 26, led by a former senator, one of the delegates from the Central Senatorial district, told the PDP national chairman, Adamu Muazu, that if their protest against the November 1 ward congresses result submitted by the splinter group was not dropped, the party would have unknowingly told the two zones they are no longer needed.
