Perplexity has released its AI-powered web browser, Comet, on Android. The browser first launched on desktop in July and is designed to make searching and browsing easier with the help of AI.
The Android version includes most of the features from the desktop app. Users can set Perplexity as their default search engine and even “mention” different browser tabs to ask the AI questions about them. You can also speak to the assistant using voice mode, and it can summarize information from all open tabs at once.
Comet can also help with tasks like researching products or shopping online, and it shows you the steps it’s taking. The Android version includes a built-in ad blocker as well.
Perplexity says more features are coming soon, such as:
A smarter conversational agent that can search across websites
Quick-action shortcuts
A full password manager
Earlier this month, Perplexity upgraded the desktop version of the Comet Assistant to handle longer and more complex tasks, including moving data from websites into spreadsheets automatically.
The company says Android was the priority because many phone makers and network operators want Comet on their devices. An iOS version is coming soon.
Perplexity already has a partnership with Motorola to preload its app on their phones, but it’s unclear if that will include the new browser.
AI browsers are becoming popular, with companies like OpenAI, Opera, and the makers of Arc also launching their own versions. But experts warn that AI-powered browsing tools still face security risks, especially around how AI “agents” behave online.
Perplexity has acknowledged these concerns and says new types of attacks require rethinking browser security from scratch.
