AYINGBA, Kogi State – Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi has donated ₦10 million to Grimard College of Nursing Sciences in Ayingba, Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, to support the establishment of a skills laboratory centre.
Obi announced the donation after visiting the institution on Saturday, August 15, saying the contribution was part of his continued support for the college. Okay News reports that the institution had previously faced a threat to its accreditation over the lack of a bus for students’ clinical placements.
According to Obi, his earlier intervention helped facilitate the provision of a school bus, enabling the college to retain its accreditation and continue training nurses and other healthcare professionals.
During Saturday’s visit, Obi said the new skills laboratory would further strengthen the institution’s capacity to train students and equip them with practical skills needed for their careers.
He urged the students to remain committed to their studies, describing nursing as a profession with extensive opportunities and the potential to enable graduates to make significant contributions in Nigeria and abroad.
Obi also said education and healthcare should remain central to Nigeria’s development efforts, arguing that governments, individuals and organisations all have a role to play in strengthening both sectors.
“Every nation striving for sustainable development and an improved quality of life for its citizens must deliberately invest in two crucial sectors: education and healthcare,” he said.
Obi reaffirmed his support for the college’s management, staff and students, adding: “A renewed Nigeria is achievable.”
