NSUKKA, Enugu, Nigeria – Former Anambra State governor and Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has donated ₦10 million to support the development of nursing and medical education at Bishop Shanahan Hospital in Nsukka, Enugu State.
Obi announced the donation after visiting the hospital’s College of Nursing Sciences and College of Medical Sciences, saying the funds would support their growth, development and capacity to provide quality healthcare training. Okay News reports that the visit was part of Obi’s continued support for the institution.
Speaking to students, Obi said education should not be viewed only as a route to obtaining certificates but as a means of developing knowledge, skills, discipline and character that can be used to serve society.
He encouraged the students to see their training as preparation for careers in which they could make a meaningful difference as competent and compassionate healthcare professionals.
Obi said sustained investment in education and healthcare, combined with efforts to reduce poverty, was among the most effective ways to build a more productive and prosperous society.
“When we invest in people, we invest in the future of our nation,” Obi said, adding that he believes “A New Nigeria is possible.”
