OWERRI, Nigeria — Former Anambra State Governor and National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi has donated ₦15 million to the School of Nursing Sciences at Holy Rosary Hospital, Emekuku, to support structural improvements and capacity building.
The philanthropic intervention was announced on Saturday following Obi’s working visit to educational, health, and religious institutions across Imo State.
Okay News reports that the visit is part of the opposition leader’s ongoing national tour aimed at directing private capital toward primary healthcare and human resource development. During his stop at the Emekuku facility, Obi inspected several infrastructural upgrades funded by his previous financial interventions, including a newly equipped digital computer laboratory designed to modernize training for nursing students.
Addressing the management, staff, and student body, Peter Obi emphasized that functional health education remains an indispensable prerequisite for national growth and poverty alleviation. *“The world needs you more than you need the world because healthcare is one of humanity’s most fundamental needs. Any nation that truly desires development must invest in the education and training of healthcare professionals,”* Obi stated, noting that previous facilities he supported—such as Iyi-Enu and Borromeo—have successfully evolved into comprehensive teaching hospitals.
The former governor reiterated his long-standing position that national development must focus on strengthening vital public sectors rather than funding transactional political activities. He maintained that his structural support across the country aims to help build an inclusive society where access to qualitative opportunities is democratized, ensuring that children from less privileged backgrounds can attain professional success purely on merit.
