Bauchi, NIGERIA — The Labour Party leader and former presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, arrived at the Bauchi State Government House on Thursday, for a meeting with Governor Bala Mohammed.
The meeting, which was held behind closed doors, reportedly focused on Obi’s ongoing consultations regarding his 2027 presidential ambition.
Okay News reports that the visit is part of a broader strategy by the Labour Party leader to build a cross-regional coalition ahead of the next general elections. Obi was accompanied by a powerful delegation including prominent Igbo elders, ADC senators from the South-East, and several key political associates.
Governor Bala Mohammed, who also serves as the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, received the delegation warmly, though the specific details of their discussion remain undisclosed. Political analysts suggest that the presence of ADC (African Democratic Congress) lawmakers in Obi’s entourage points toward the potential formation of a “Third Force” or a strategic merger between opposition parties to challenge the APC in 2027.
The visit to Bauchi follows Obi’s recent public statements regarding the “suffering of ordinary Nigerians” and his calls for a fundamental rethink of the nation’s security and economic architecture. The inclusion of Igbo elders in the delegation is seen as an effort to solidify his home base while reaching out to the North-East political bloc represented by Mohammed.
