Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has officially declared his intention to remain within the Labour Party (LP), clarifying that he will not be following the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to a new political platform.

Speaking during a monthly media engagement in Umuahia, the Governor confirmed that while Obi had personally informed him of the decision to leave, he has opted to stay and focus on internal party reforms.

Governor Otti emphasized his independent history with the organization, noting that he had joined the Labour Party prior to Peter Obi’s entry. The Governor expressed a sense of institutional loyalty, stating that his primary goal is to help reposition and rescue the party that provided the platform for his electoral victory before considering any other political alternatives.

In response to public invitations from members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to switch parties, Governor Otti dismissed the suggestions as distractions to his current administration. Citing the wisdom of Winston Churchill, he remarked that he would not stop to address every political critic or external pressure, reaffirming that his immediate priority remains the governance and development of Abia State.
