Former Nigerian presidential candidate Peter Obi has expressed deep appreciation to Nigerians at home and abroad for their support following the alleged attack at the ADC office in Benin, Benin City.
In a statement seen by Okay News, and released on Wednesday after the incident, Obi thanked citizens for their prayers, calls and solidarity, describing the gesture as uplifting during what he called a difficult time. He also acknowledged the support shown to the family of former Edo State Governor, John Odigie-Oyegun, and to another former governor, Oserheimen Osunbor. Obi said the outpouring of goodwill had strengthened his faith in Nigeria’s shared humanity and reinforced his resolve to continue working for national progress.
Reflecting on his past experiences, the former Anambra State governor noted that confronting insecurity was not new to him. He recalled that the violence in Anambra years ago shaped his determination to pursue leadership with a focus on restoring order and public trust. He urged Nigerians to remain courageous and actively participate in shaping the country’s future, quoting the philosopher Plato on the consequences of political apathy.
Obi further called on citizens to prioritise competence, character, commitment and compassion when choosing leaders, stressing that Nigeria’s future depends on electing individuals who place service above personal ambition. He concluded by reaffirming his belief that a peaceful, secure and prosperous Nigeria is achievable through unity and collective resolve.
