Items running into several thousands of Ghana Cedis were destroyed Tuesday after fire engulfed the Timber Market in Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo region.

Starr News’ Brong Ahafo Regional correspondent, Michael Sarpong Mfum reports the fire started from a refuse dump near the market.

“There is a carpentry workshop close to the timber market. Sometime the carpenters burn their sawdust and it is one of those exercises that caused the fire today”.

Some of the merchants at the market are said to have been in a state of “shock” and some “devastated” following the incident.

Personnel of the fire service and the Police reportedly spent several hours to douse the flame.
