The Fidei Polytechnic in Gboko, Benue State was Thursday shut down indefinitely by its
management following a violent protest by some students.

Eyewitnesses told reporters that tension started mounting in the institution yesterday after the school management denied some students who were said to have met the conditions for sitting their exams from doing so.

The appeal by the students fell on deaf ears as the management pointed out that enough time had been given to students to do all the necessary registration before the commencement of their semester examination.

This angered the students who started destroying some of the school property.

Men of the Nigerian police who were called in to restore law and order were attacked by the irate students. Some of the students were reportedly shot and arrested.
