Members of a Shiite Muslim sect on Saturday attempted to assassinate Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, in Zaria, Kaduna State, the Nigerian Army has said.
At least 7 people are feared dead from the attack on soldiers.
The clash involved the convoy of the Chief of Army Staff and the Shiites.
Gunshots were heard as people scampered for safety as fight between El-Zakzaky’s Shi’a Group and Army intensified.
A shi’a member said the Nigerian Army opened fire on the El-Zakzaky Shiite group HQ Hussainiyyah Baqiyyatallah in Zaria.
