Brownhill Investments Company Limited, the organizers of the annual ‘Warri Again Concert’, have taken legal action against the popular hip-hop artiste, David Adeleke, known by his stage name Davido.

The suit, filed at the Delta State High Court in Effurun and marked EHC/183/2023, alleges an infringement of the contract agreed upon between the parties, and seeks the sum of N2.3 billion in damages.

Brownhill Investments Company Limited, led by the former President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Mr. Amaju Pinnick, has engaged the services of lawyer Kelechi Onwuegbuchulem to represent them in this matter.

The claimant is requesting the court to order Davido and his music label, Davido Music Worldwide Limited, to pay N2 billion as general damages, in addition to N150 million as legal and professional fees, and N30 million as the cost of filing the suit.

Additionally, the company is seeking a public apology from Davido on all his social media accounts as well as in two national newspapers for four consecutive days.

The lawsuit contends that Davido had requested to perform at the 19th edition of the ‘Warri Again Concert’ on October 6, 2023, and an agreement was reached with Pinnick for a performance fee of N70 million.

According to the claimant, the sum of US$94,500.00, equivalent to N70 million, was paid on April 6, 2023, which Davido acknowledged.

Subsequently, Davido made a promotional video for the event but failed to appear on the scheduled day, resulting in substantial financial losses for the organizers.

The lawsuit also asserts that despite repeated attempts to reach Davido and his team, they were unresponsive, leading to the company incurring additional expenses of $18,000 for a chartered private jet.

As a consequence, the company is seeking the full payment of $94,500 for the engagement of Davido’s services.
