Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria — The Governor of Plateau State in north central Nigeria, Caleb Mutfwang, has congratulated Nentawe Yilwatda on his successful screening and return as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, alongside other members of the party’s National Working Committee.
In a congratulatory message issued on Saturday, March 28, 2026, and signed by the governor’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, the governor described Yilwatda’s emergence through a consensus arrangement as a reflection of the party’s commitment to inclusive leadership under the administration of Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly as preparations begin for the 2027 general elections.
Governor Mutfwang commended party leaders and stakeholders for what he described as maturity and foresight in promoting unity, tolerance and reforms within the party. He said these efforts had strengthened cohesion and created a level playing field for members to pursue political ambitions peacefully. Okay News reports that the statement emphasised the importance of internal stability ahead of the next national electoral cycle.
The governor also acknowledged Yilwatda’s leadership since his unanimous adoption in June 2025. He pointed to reconciliation efforts among party members, reorganisation of membership through electronic registration and steps aimed at repositioning the party for growth and electoral success.
Expressing confidence in Yilwatda’s ability, Mutfwang highlighted his background in digital transformation, energy research and information and communication technology, as well as his experience serving as a Resident Electoral Commissioner. According to the governor, these credentials position him to guide the party effectively ahead of the 2027 elections.
Mutfwang further appreciated key national leaders including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, along with governors and stakeholders, for zoning the party’s national chairmanship to Nigeria’s North Central geopolitical zone, specifically Plateau State.
He added that Plateau State has capable individuals with strong records in public service and expressed confidence that Yilwatda would foster unity and strengthen the party’s legacy. The statement concluded: “On behalf of the government and peace-loving people of Plateau State, Governor Mutfwang congratulates Prof. Goshwe on this recognition and prays for God’s guidance, strength, good health and wisdom as he assumes this leadership role.”
