Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has formally withdrawn his membership of the People’s Democratic Party.
In a resignation letter dated December 29, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman of Ampang West Ward in Mangu Local Government Area, the governor announced his exit from the party with immediate effect. The letter was acknowledged by ward officials the following day.
In the correspondence, Mutfwang expressed appreciation to the PDP for providing him “the political platform to participate in the democratic process,” while thanking party leaders, members and supporters for the confidence reposed in him during his time in the party.
However, the governor said changing political realities informed his decision to step away, explaining that his commitment to governance required a new direction.
“Given the realities of the moment and guided by my commitment to purposeful leadership, clarity of direction, and service delivery, I am compelled to seek an alternative political platform,” the letter read.
While there is growing speculation that Mutfwang could align with the All Progressives Congress, he has not publicly announced any new party affiliation.
