In a victorious mood, Mr. Kassim Afegbua walked out of Police Headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday a hero when the Inspector General of Police Monitoring Unit formally apologised to him after a brief chat.

The Police authority maintained that Kassim Afegbua was never arrested nor declared wanted on the order of Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, declaring that the public should discountenance any such sensationalism in the press.

Under the atmosphere of civil, friendly, courteous and professional officers, CP Legal, Mr David Igbodo and DC Sani Ahmed (Monitoring) they informed that the IGP has tremendous respect for every Nigerian and he is allergic to violation of citizen’s right.

Afegbua a longtime spokesperson for General Ibrahim Babangida, turned himself in few days after he was declared wanted on allegations that he made “false statements, injurious falsehood, defamation of character and for an act capable of inciting public disturbance throughout the country.”

On whether he would withdraw the case against the Police authority Afegbua said he will seek the consent of his lead counsel, Dr Kayode Ajulo. He also said he would issue a statement later in the day and inform the public accordingly.

Friends, family members and political associates who came in solidarity with Afegbua were thrown into jubilant mood at the Force Headquarters following the outcome of the case.
