EKITI STATE, Nigeria – The Police Command in Ekiti State arrested three suspects following the alleged abduction and assault of Rufus Olorunfemi, chairman of the Ikere-West Local Council Development Area, and Funso Ajayi.
Okay News reports that Sunday Abutu, the Police Public Relations Officer, announced the arrests in a statement issued on Friday.
Abutu said: “preliminary investigation revealed that on 3rd June, 2026 at about 9pm, three Hilux vehicles loaded with armed men in camouflage uniform allegedly accosted the LCDA chairman and one Funso Ajayi along Anoye Street, Ikere Ekiti and whisked them away”.
The victims were taken to the residence of an unnamed politician, where they were assaulted before being released. Abutu said: “Three suspects have been apprehended in connection with the incident and are currently being investigated. While effort is ongoing to arrest others who are at present at large, the suspects will be charged to court immediately after the investigation is concluded”.
Michael Falade, the Commissioner of Police for the state, ordered a thorough investigation into the matter. Abutu warned citizens against inciting violence and said: “The Command will continue to ensure safety and justice for all, fairness and rule of law, professionalism and respect for the rights of all citizens”.
