The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has foiled a planned attack by armed bandits in Kwali, resulting in the death of three assailants. The operation followed intelligence that the gang intended to strike a community on or before December 1, 2025.
According to the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the criminals had previously carried out kidnappings in ACO Community, Gwagwalada, and Bwari. Acting on credible intelligence, the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye, directed the Anti-Kidnapping Unit to intensify operations and track the syndicate.
On November 30 at around 2:11 PM, operatives arrested a key gang member, Sani Mohammed Umar, also known as Boko. His mobile phone, suspected to be used for coordinating criminal operations, was recovered. Investigations linked him to previous kidnappings and armed robberies across Gwagwalada, Kuje, and Kwali. Umar confirmed that other gang members were assembling at Gada Biyu Hills, Kwali, to launch a fresh attack.
At approximately 11:01 PM, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit laid an ambush at the meeting point. The bandits opened fire, prompting a 30-minute gun battle, during which three attackers were neutralized. Other members reportedly escaped with gunshot wounds.
A joint operation with troops from the Nigerian Army’s 176 Battalion has been launched to comb forests and criminal hideouts in the FCT. Medical facilities have been alerted to report any gunshot victims.
The police recovered three AK-47 rifles and three magazines containing 33 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition. CP Dantawaye commended the unit’s professionalism and urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely intelligence.
