The Sokoto State Police Command has officially confirmed the tragic demise of Usman Buda, a butcher, killed through an act of mob violence perpetrated against him for alleged blasphemy.
This unfortunate incident unfolded as a result of Buda purportedly making derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad.

The victim was pronounced dead at the Usmanu Danfodiyo Teaching Hospital, where he was urgently transported for medical attention. The incident took place at the Sokoto main abattoir during the early hours of yesterday. It has been reported that individuals who attempted to intervene and rescue Buda also sustained injuries during the altercation.

The assailants managed to flee the scene before the arrival of law enforcement authorities. Ahmad Rufa’i, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and the Sokoto Police Public Relations Officer, issued an official statement regarding the incident. He stated, “A distress call was received at approximately 09:20 am, reporting that Usman Buda, a butcher at Sokoto Abattoir from Gwandu Local Government Area, had allegedly committed blasphemy against the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW). Consequently, he was subjected to a violent mob assault.”

“Upon receiving this information, the Commissioner of Police, the Area Commander Metro, and the Divisional Police Officer of Kwanni immediately led a team of policemen and other operational commanders to the scene,” he continued.

Rufa’i further added, “Upon arrival, the mob had already dispersed, leaving the victim in an unconscious state. Our officers promptly rescued him and swiftly conveyed him to Usmanu Danfodiyo Teaching Hospital in Sokoto for medical treatment. Tragically, he was later confirmed deceased.”

He concluded by emphasizing that an investigation is currently underway to apprehend the perpetrators of this heinous act and ensure they face the full force of the law. The Sokoto State Police Command is committed to bringing the culprits to justice and maintaining peace and order within the community.
