Sokoto, Nigeria – The Police Command in Sokoto State successfully repelled two separate bandit attacks and recovered 137 stolen cows in the Tureta Local Government Area on June 28 and June 30.
The Public Relations Officer for the command, DSP Ahmad Rufai, detailed the security operations in a public statement. Okay News reports that the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and the Village Crime Response Centre mobilized tactical teams to intercept the attackers.
The first incident followed a distress call regarding armed bandits shooting and stealing livestock in Fura Kirke. “Our operatives strategically blocked all exit routes from the village and engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle,” Rufai said.
“Overpowered by the superior firepower of the security forces, the criminals fled through the Gizazza Forest, abandoning the rustled animals,” Rufai said. Officers recovered 65 cows and recorded no civilian or security casualties during the encounter.
A second attack occurred in Bimasa, where suspects fired indiscriminately and rustled domestic animals. “The gallant operatives engaged the bandits in a sustained gun duel, forcing them to flee into the nearby forest and abandon the stolen livestock,” Rufai said.
Police secured 72 cows during the second operation, with no injuries reported among security personnel. The Commissioner of Police requested that residents continue providing credible intelligence to assist law enforcement operations across the state.
