The Enugu State Police Command has successfully stopped a late-night robbery attempt in the Enugu metropolis, arresting a twenty-eight-year-old suspect during a swift intervention near Agric Bank Bus Stop in Independence Layout.

The arrest took place on Saturday, 13 December 2025, at about 11:30 in the night, following a distress call from residents who noticed suspicious activity in the area. Operatives attached to the Independence Layout Police Division responded promptly, preventing the incident from escalating.

According to a statement released on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Superintendent of Police Daniel Ndukwe, the suspect was identified as Chimuanya Oshim, aged twenty-eight. He was apprehended while allegedly attempting to dispossess a young man of his belongings.

“The suspect, Chimuanya Oshim, twenty-eight, was arrested on December thirteen, around eleven thirty in the night, while attempting to rob members of the public,” Ndukwe stated.

He explained that officers caught the suspect at the scene of the crime and recovered an imitation revolver pistol loaded with eight toy bullets, which was allegedly used to intimidate the victim during the robbery attempt.

“At the scene, operatives caught the suspect robbing a young man and recovered a revolver imitation pistol loaded with eight toy bullets,” the police spokesperson added.

Okay News reports that the suspect is currently being held in police custody and will be charged to court once investigations are concluded.

Ndukwe further disclosed that the Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mamman Giwa, commended the officers for their alertness and urged them to maintain pressure on criminal elements operating within the state.

“The commissioner urged officers to sustain the momentum and make Enugu uninhabitable for unrepentant criminals,” he said.

The police command also called on residents of Enugu State to continue supporting security efforts by providing timely and credible information that can help prevent crime and enhance rapid response.

In related developments, the Enugu State Police Command recently announced the arrest of six suspected cult members by the Anti-Cultism Unit. The suspects reportedly confessed to attempting to force residents into initiation rites of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity. Items recovered during that operation included a firearm, cutlasses, and alcoholic beverages.

The latest arrest also follows earlier intelligence-led operations conducted between Friday, 22 November 2025, and Sunday, 01 December 2025, during which five suspects linked to armed robbery and one-chance criminal activities were apprehended by the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad.

Those suspects were identified as Ikechukwu Patrick, aged nineteen; Odoh David, aged twenty-one; Izuchukwu Ogbodo, aged thirty-seven; Charles Ekenechukwu Egwuatu, aged thirty-nine; and Justina Dike, aged thirty-seven.
