The Nigeria Police Force has warned Nigerians against making calls at filling stations, saying it is now a criminal offence.

The public relations officer of the Force, Jimoh Moshood ,who said this on Saturday, noted that offenders could be prosecuted and jailed for attempted arson.

According to him, police officers have the authority to arrest anyone found making phone calls or smoking at filling stations.

He said that filling stations are public facilities and as such, users cannot act the way they like due to the inflammable products like petrol and other petroleum products being dispensed there.

“Making phone calls or smoking at filling stations is a criminal offence and the police, of course, could arrest anyone violating the safety rules put in place to safeguard life and property at the filling stations,” Moshood said.
