The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has revealed that foreign mercenaries are involved in the planned nationwide protests, citing credible intelligence. He urged Nigerians to exercise caution and think twice before joining any protest group.

Egbetokun addressed journalists in Abuja, stating that the police have been monitoring developments surrounding the protest threats. He noted that while some groups call for violent protests, others advocate for peaceful demonstrations, but with potentially violent undertones.

The police chief commended individuals who have withdrawn from the protest due to concerns about sinister motives and ignorance of those calling for violence. He also acknowledged fears that enemies of the country may be manipulating the protest process, confirming that these fears are genuine.

To ensure peaceful protests, Egbetokun urged all groups planning to participate to submit their details to the Commissioners of Police in their respective states. The police aim to prevent any potential violence or disruption caused by the involvement of foreign mercenaries.
