Algiers, ALGERIA – Pope Leo XIV has officially concluded his Apostolic Journey to Algeria, boarding the papal plane on Wednesday morning for the next stage of his four-nation tour of Africa.
Okay News gathered that the Pope took off from Algiers’ Houari Boumédiène International Airport at approximately 10:15 AM local time on April 15, 2026. Before his departure, the Pontiff made a surprise visit to the Our Lady of Africa Nursery, an orphanage managed by the Missionary Sisters of Charity, where he spent time with children who performed a short musical show in his honor.
The Algiers leg of the trip was marked by significant interfaith milestones, including a historic visit to the Grand Mosque of Algiers and a pilgrimage to the ancient ruins of Hippo in Annaba, the home of Saint Augustine. A brief farewell ceremony was held at the airport, attended by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and a delegation of civil and religious leaders, as the Pope expressed his gratitude for the hospitality shown by the Algerian people.
The papal flight is scheduled to land at the Yaoundé-Nsimalen International Airport in Cameroon at approximately 3:20 PM today. Upon arrival, Pope Leo XIV is expected to participate in an official welcome ceremony followed by a courtesy visit to the President of Cameroon. His itinerary in Yaoundé also includes a meeting with the diplomatic corps and a visit to the Ngul Zamba Orphanage, as he continues to promote his message of peace, justice, and reconciliation across the continent.
