Power Outage Hits Ogba, Ikeja, Alausa in Lagos Over TCN Fault

By Muhammad A. Aliyu

The Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) has reported a power outage affecting parts of its network, disrupting supply in the Ogba, Ikeja and Alausa areas.

Okay News reports that the outage began on Tuesday and was traced to a technical fault at a facility operated by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

IKEDC in a message sent to customers, explained that the disruption was caused by a 132kV jumper cut at TCN’s Injection Substation (ISS).

A jumper cut occurs when a jumper cable is damaged or disconnected, breaking the electrical path needed to transmit power.

Dear Customer, the current power outage is due to a 132kV jumper cut at the TCN Injection Substation (ISS). The TCN technical team is already working to clear the fault to ensure supply is restored as soon as possible,” the message said.

The company assured affected residents that TCN engineers were already on-site working to restore normal supply.

Speaking with Okay News, IKEDC spokesperson Kingsley Okotie clarified that the outage is limited to specific areas within the company’s coverage.

It doesn’t totally affect the whole of our franchise. The message was sent to only customers in areas affected,” he said.

We are still working to resolve the issues; that’s where we are at the moment.

The development adds to ongoing concerns about grid reliability, as parts of Lagos continue to experience intermittent power disruptions linked to transmission infrastructure faults.
