Pres. Jonathan Promotes 72 Senior Police Officers At Last Minute

The Police Service Commission (PSC), Ikechukwu Anisaid the decision was made at a plenary.

Hours to the end of his tenure, President Goodluck Jonathan administration has approved the promotion of 72 senior police officers from the rank of deputy commissioners of police.

The press and public relations head of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Ikechukwu Ani, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, May 28.

He said the decision was made at a plenary, which had in attendance, the chairman of the commission and former inspector general of police, Sir Mike Okiro.

Ani said, “the Police Service Commission has approved the promotion of 72 senior police officers. The promotion was part of the decisions of the commission at its 12th Plenary Meeting held in Abuja on Wednesday, May 26, 2015 and presided by its chairman, Sir Dr. Mike Okiro, a retired Inspector General of Police.

“The commission approved the promotion of 14 Deputy Commissioners of Police to the next rank of Commissioners of Police after they appeared before the commission’s Plenary and were interviewed.

“20 ACPs were promoted to the rank of DCP while two CSPs were promoted to the rank of ACP. Another three CSPs were appointed acting ACP, one SP promoted to CSP, 30 DSPs to SP, one ASP to the next rank of DSP. One Inspector was appointed acting ASP.”

All the promotions are expected to be effective immediately.
