Presidency: Atiku Vows to Continue Contesting, Cites Lincoln’s Example

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

Former Vice President and 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has declared his intention to continue contesting for the presidency as long as he is alive and healthy.

In an interview with the Voice of America’s Hausa service, Atiku drew inspiration from former US President Abraham Lincoln, who contested seven times before winning. Atiku has contested six times, with three appearances on the ballot (2007, 2019, and 2023).

Acknowledging the current challenges within the PDP, Atiku emphasized the need for unity and alliances with other political groups to win the 2027 presidential election. He recently met with Labour Party’s Peter Obi, fueling speculation of a potential coalition.

Atiku will be 81 years old by the next presidential election in 2027. Despite his determination, he recognizes that a single-handed effort is insufficient to win, and seeks strong support and collaboration with other parties.
