President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria has formally approved the reconstitution of the Board of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), following the confirmation of its members by the Nigerian Senate on Tuesday, December 16, 2025.

Okay News reports that the announcement was made in a statement on Thursday by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy. The statement revealed that Dr. Mulisiu Olalekan Oseni has been appointed as the new Chairman of NERC.

Dr. Oseni, who initially joined the commission as a commissioner in January 2017 and later served as Vice Chairman, assumed office as chairman on December 1, 2025. His tenure will run until the completion of his ten-year term, in accordance with the Electricity Act, 2023.

Dr. Yusuf Ali was appointed as the Vice Chairman of the commission. Ali, who began his service as a commissioner in February 2022, took up his new role on December 1, 2025, and will serve until the end of his first term.

Other members of the reconstituted board include Mr. Nathan Rogers Shatti, Mr. Dafe Akpeneye, and Mrs. Aisha Mahmud Kanti Bello, all of whom are serving their second terms as commissioners. Shatti and Akpeneye were first appointed in January 2017, while Bello joined the commission in December 2020.

Dr. Chidi Ike, serving his first term since February 2022, and Dr. Fouad Animashaun, who started in December 2025, were also appointed as commissioners. Animashaun, an energy economist, previously served as Executive Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has charged the board members of NERC to deepen and consolidate the ongoing transformation of Nigeria’s power sector, in strict alignment with the letter and spirit of the Electricity Act, 2023,” the statement added.
