President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led the Eid-el-Kabir prayers at Dodan Barracks in Lagos on Friday, June 6, 2025, joining thousands of Muslim worshippers in marking the important Islamic festival. The event was notable for the presence of several high-ranking government officials, business leaders, and political figures, reflecting the significance of the occasion.
The president was accompanied by key members of his administration, including Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Defence Minister Muhammed Badaru Abubakar, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola, and Minister of State for Defence Bello Muhammed Matawalle. Other dignitaries included former Minister of Power and ex-Lagos Governor Babatunde Fashola (SAN), Lagos Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, and prominent businessmen such as Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Abdul Rabiu of BUA Group, and Wale Tinubu of Oando. Professor Shaffideen Amuwo, a close associate of the president, was also present.
Following the prayers, President Tinubu delivered a heartfelt message urging Nigerians to embrace unity, generosity, and compassion. “As we make sacrifices, we should remember to pray and give to those who are vulnerable. We must come together to be one and another’s brothers keeper and love everyone fully. We must pray hard for our troops who are keeping us safe and making the sacrifices in the challenges of terrorism and banditry that we face,” he said.
The Chief Imam’s sermon complemented the president’s remarks by calling for peace and unity across ethnic lines. “If we are to see the Nigeria of our dreams, we must be ready to make sacrifices. We must unite as Nigerians to make progress. We must rise above tribal sentiments. Whether you are Igbo, Yoruba, or Hausa, we must live above ethnic sentiments,” he urged.
In his official Eid message, President Tinubu reassured Nigerians that the administration’s reforms are making progress and encouraged patience. “We may not yet be where we aspire to be, but I urge all Nigerians not to lose hope. Let us hold on to our faith and persevere. Our reforms are gaining traction, with key economic indicators now moving in a positive direction. Soon, all will feel the benefits,” he said.
The prayers and messages delivered during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration underscored the themes of sacrifice, unity, and hope for a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.
