Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, has cleared medical bills totalling N53 million for patients admitted at four hospitals in Lagos State.

Okay News reports that the gesture covered all in-patients at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) in Idi-Araba and three general hospitals in Surulere, Lagos’s densely populated southwestern district.

At LUTH, Gbajabiamila settled N33.6 million in outstanding bills, while N8.6 million was paid for patients at the Femi Gbajabiamila General Hospital in Iyun, Surulere.

Additional payments covered bills at other facilities in the Surulere area.

Gbajabiamila described the intervention as a Yuletide act of compassion, acknowledging the financial hardships many families face during medical emergencies.

He urged privileged Nigerians to extend support to those in need within their communities.

The Chief of Staff also visited the Gbaja Maternal and Child Centre on Randle Road, presenting cash gifts to the mother of the first baby of 2026—born at 12:01 am—and mothers of other newborns delivered on New Year’s Day.

The first baby was named Yusuf.

LUTH Chief Medical Director Professor Wasiu Lanre Adeyemi received Gbajabiamila and expressed gratitude, noting the timely relief for patients facing economic challenges.

The initiative highlights ongoing philanthropic efforts by Gbajabiamila in his former constituency of Surulere, where he served as federal lawmaker for two decades.
