Amiens defender Prince Gouano was racially abused by fans as he took a corner towards the end of his side’s match against Dijon.

The match was delayed for five minutes as both clubs debated leaving the pitch.

But later agreed to continue the match on the proviso that no other abuse was heard.

After the match ended in a goalless draw, the league’s governing body, Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) released a press statement, condemning the racist abuse.

The press statement reads: “The LFP condemns the racist insults that led to the temporary interruption of the meeting Dijon FCO – Amiens SC.

The LFP supports the player Prince Gouano.

On Wednesday, the Disciplinary Committee will seize the file. As early as tonight, the Dijon club identified the author of the racist insults who was later arrested.

As part of its agreement with LICRA, the LFP will study the judicial follow-up to be given to this file.”

This is the latest in a string of racist incidents which have ruined the game.
